SALEM, ORE. -- Bekah Daniel ('14), who holds the Willamette University track and field record in the triple jump, has been selected for the 2013-14 Northwest Conference All-Academic First Team. The award honors the top student-athlete from each NWC team for athletic, academic and community achievement.

Daniel set the WU triple jump record with a distance of 38' 6.75" at the West Coast Invitational on May 15, 2014. She broke the previous record of 38' 6" set by Laura Wright in 1989.

Also this spring, Daniel won her second consecutive Northwest Conference championships title in the triple jump with a mark of 37' 8". It was her personal-best at the time, but held for only a couple of weeks before she broke the school record.

She also placed third in the NWC in the heptathlon with a personal record 4,411 points and was finished third in the long jump at 17' 5.25". Her heptathlon score was the second highest all-time at Willamette and ranked 23rd in NCAA Division III during the regular season this spring.

With her record-breaking result in the triple jump, Daniel qualified for the 2014 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She took 21st place with a combined distance of 36' 5".

Daniel, a member of the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society, graduated from Willamette this spring with a major in Physics and a minor in Mathematics. She attained a 3.94 cumulative GPA.

In addition, she received several other academic honors this year. She received Willamette's Female Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award in 2013-14 by maintaining the highest cumulative grade point average. She also received the Jean Williams Award as the top senior women's athlete at Willamette based on athletics, academics and leadership.

At Willamette, Daniel received the William H. Webber Scholarship and the Phil Hanni Scholarship. She was selected by Willamette for a Science Collaborative Research Program grant. She has been honored by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) with All-Academic honors each of the past three seasons in track and field.
